Firestarters

One of the moms at our Waldorf school donated these natural firestarters to the children's gift garden at our holiday fair. They are easy to make by reusing materials around the house and a natural alternative to petroleum based commercial firestarters. They also make a great dad/grandpa gift!

Materials:

Container: egg Cartons or paper cups
Filler: sawdust, shredded paper or dryer lint
Wax: old candle stubs, etc that can be melted down

Directions:

For gifts, it works well to cut the egg cartons into four packs. Place containers on a cookie sheet or other wax resistant surface. Fill cups halfway with filler. Pour melted wax over the top and allow to cool. For gifts, decorate with raffia, etc. The tag gives instructions that only one cup per fire needs to be used.
