Fuzzy Chick in a Half Shell

Materials:

Lion Brand Fun Fur in any shade of yellow – small amount (great for using up leftovers)
Size #3 (US) DPNs
Small amount of stuffing (can also use leftover yarn)
Beads or very small buttons for eyes
Tiny scrap orange felt for beakHalf an eggshell, rinsed and air dried

Directions:

  • CO 9 stitches and divide among three needles

  • Join work, being careful not to twist and then begin increasing as follows

  • Row 1 – K all
  • Row 2 - *Kfb, K2* repeat to end of row (12sts)
  • Row 3 - K all
  • Row 4 - *Kfb, K3* repeat to end of row (15 sts)
  • Row 5 – K all
  • Row 6 – *Kfb, K4* repeat to end of row (18 sts)

  • Continue in stockinette until work measures approximately 1 ¼ inches, then begin decreasing
  • Row 1 – *K2tog, K4* repeat to end of row (15 sts)
  • Row 2 – K all
  • Row 3 – *K2tog, K3* repeat to end of row (12 sts)
  • Row 4 – K all
  • Row 5 – *K2tog, K2* repeat to end of row (9 sts)

  • Break yarn leaving long tail

  • Using tapestry needle, thread yarn tail through all 9 stitches

  • Pull tightly to close and then fasten off, but do not break yarn

  • Still using tapestry needle, pull yarn into the body and out the open top of work

  • Stuff work firmly but not so much that it will be difficult to close
  • Weave tapestry needle in and out of top edge of work and then pull tight to close

  • Fasten off and weave in yarn tail

  • Position and sew on beads for eyes and felt for beak

  • Trim fur as desired and place in eggshell
